Spinal tumors may develop within the coverings of the spinal cord, outside those coverings, in the bones of the spine, or as a result of cancer elsewhere in the body. Their effects can include pain, weakness, numbness, or changes in walking and other neurological functions.
Treatment planning is shaped by the tumor’s location, its relationship to the spinal cord and nerves, the stability of the spine, and the patient’s overall care plan. Coordination with oncology and other specialists may be part of building an individualized recommendation.
